*Please note our consulting programs begin at $1,500 USD.
I work with Tim Forrest, my name is Lynn and I’m the Director of Business Development at Tim Forrest Consulting, LLC.
We appreciate your import business idea.
You don’t have to have business experience to start a business.
However, it makes succeeding considerably more difficult.
Because… if you’ve never done it before how do you know what to do? Trial and error isn’t effective.
You would need someone who has business experience and success, like myself and Tim Forrest, for it to work.
KEY FACTORS to consider:
[Start at the end and work your way backward to determine if your business idea will be profitable.]
Financial investment needed. You need capital to develop an importing business the type you are looking at.
Research to identify the current market demand, demographics, buyers, and more.
In your case, there is an added factor of FDA and port official rules along with shipping expenses. This is also an added cost and work.
What are the costs for associated with your product, shipping across the ocean, trucking to storage, storage costs, processing it into a product.
a. How do you find buyers?
b. You have to research the commodity market to find out what the market is selling for to wholesale buyers. This price also goes up and down so you have to stay current if it’s commodity based.
c. After knowing all your expenses can your selling price earn you 20-30 or even 50% profit?
If the answer is ‘yes’, then you need a business plan and a food consultant like Tim. If the answer is ‘no’ then you did a great job in proving the business idea was not viable.
How comfortable are you risking $10,000+ on this business project?
What you are attempting is long-term project that will last months and possibly longer than a year until your first order shipment.
Businesses are developed over time with lots of evaluation and adjustments.
If you were to attempt this, it would be a requirement to use someone with Tim Forrest’s services since he knows how to do all of this.
After identifying from above that the business can sell products at a 20-30% or greater profit, your first step would be STEP 1.
If you have not, please watch the video series from Tim regarding importing into the United States prior to our call. LINK
Have you watched the Import video series?
Step 1: Paperwork. Tim is a registered FDA agent.
He can complete the Importing paperwork / FDA / USDA approval process. We can provide a document with steps and cost to complete this process. You also will need a U.S FDA registered representative living here to import your products. If you are not living in the U.S you will need to be someone living here that you know and trust. This documentation begins at $1,500 USD to complete your food product paperwork for introduction into the United States.
